Citywide Bike Rodeo Promotes Safe Cycling
Saturday, May 25, 2013

Children from over 200 San Antonio elementary schools descended upon the Convention Center on Saturday, May 26, 2012 for the annual Citywide Bike Rodeo. Six hundred contestants vied for prizes and trophies nearly as large as the contestants themselves. Elementary school winners represented their schools at the city wide event. Participants arrived with properly equipped bicycles and helmets to demonstrate their understanding of safe cycling. Prizes were awarded for three age groups, both boys and girls.
Officer Gordon Keogh of the San Antonio Police Department, organizer for the event, shared, “This is a great opportunity to share the importance of Bike Safety.” Volunteers from the Optimist Club of San Antonio, Volunteers in Policing, and Police Explorers put the participants through their paces to demonstrate their abilities. “Backaches and sore feet for the volunteers were all worthwhile when we get to share how to safely participate in this healthy sport. Thanks to all the parents and volunteers for their support.” "
